In partnership with the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Center for Community Health Improvement and the MGH Chelsea Healthcare Center, the Healthy Chelsea Coalition, in Chelsea, MA, is a citywide consortium of community leaders with a long-term vision to change environmental and social conditions so that healthy eating and active living will become community norms. In partnership with Chelsea public schools, the Healthy Chelsea Coalition developed a teen initiative to build upon its work and to broaden its engagement with young people.
The Trefler Foundation has supported the establishment of the Youth Food Movement internship program. Through this program, the Coalition recruits youth leaders within Chelsea High Schools to train as experts on the topics of food systems, healthy eating, and the principles of successful collaboration for change. In partnership with Healthy Chelsea Coalition staff, the youth leaders serve as role models for their peers and leverage their collective voices to advocate for healthier, more appealing school meals.
